The company was started by Brian Belsby in 2000, after Brian moved to Spokane, Washington. Brian worked for Jones Engineers in Bellingham where he gained experience in design of subdivisions. This utilized his skills in road, water, sewer and stormwater design. Brian then worked for Randy Sackett, Consulting Engineer, in Winthrop. This involved surveying, and planning for a large destination resort. Brian also developed skills in the design of on-site septic systems in this rural community.

After moving to Spokane and starting the company, Brian accepted a position with Wyatt Engineering. He designed subdivisions in Washington, Idaho and Oregon, and developed site plans and stormwater plans for businesses and institutions in the region.

Mr. Belsby left Wyatt to pursue an MBA at Gonzaga University in 2001, and began engineering in his spare time for Belsby Engineering again. The office was located on Cedar Street near the county courthouse until December of 2005. Now the company is located on Sunset Boulevard, and provides a variety of civil engineering services to the region.
